See You in the New Year

Happy whatever you are celebrating in the next week or so. I shall be honouring the Winter Solstice ( or Yule) on Tuesday when we light the fires and candles to chase away the dark and celebrate the return of the Sun and the longer days

Fitters Wife

Finally I've finished my Gypsy Wife quilt.

As a UFO it's been a few years in the making. It's not quite as the original for quite a few reasons. Some of the blocks didn't quite turn out the size they should have due to errors in the pattern. Also I seem to have had a shortage of some blocks and a surplus of others.
This is the first time I've used a complete fabric range for a quilt. Moda's Printemps to be exact. I've used a layer cake, charm pack and jelly roll to complete it. Some of the long strips are actually pieced.

The quilting is simply matchstick quilting in a pearlised pale pink thread

The binding is a red with white print I had in my stash. It's not part of the Printemps range but blends in quite nicely

The backing is pieced out of fabrics I will never use on the front of  quilt. They were bought in sales just to use as backings

I've named this the Fitter's Wife. My hubby is a fitter and as I've had to fit (or fudge) this together, making extra blocks/strips as necessary it seemed apt.

The million dollar question......Do I like it now it's finished? In truth, not really. I'm pleased with how it's finally turned out but now it's finished it's lost it's hold on me. Apart from the problems putting it together I've fallen out of love with the fabric. It's not my normal palette as you've probably guessed but at the time I liked the look of it. I'll probably end up donating this to use as a raffle prize for charity unless anyone I know suddenly has a baby girl.

This is one of the quilts I wanted to finish for the FAL4. Also all the other sites that I'll be linking up to are listed HERE

Doesn't time fly....

When you are having computer problems.

Yes I'm back after another blogging break. This one was due to Chrome being a funny bugger and choosing to work only when it felt like it. Hopefully it's sorted now.
Also I haven't been able to get in my sewing room for a few weeks. We are redoing the bathroom and most of it has been stored in my sewing room. As a result I haven't been able to get in it to sew. We are nearly done with that so I can get to my sewing machine again.

I've managed some small projects this week so I do have something to show you.

First up I have some more mug rugs.

This one is a spare block from my Gypsy Wife quilt that will go in my present pile.

This one is a gift to someone who likes modern and bright colours.

I free pieced the multi coloured strips, sewed them to some grey fabric and then squared it off. I decided to be a bit different with the quilting. Basically I just followed the seam lines across the grey. I quite like the effect and may try it again on the right project.

Something different is the casserole carrier I've made my friend

She likes pink and sparkly and I think I've succeeded. the pattern is here at Craftsy.

I've also got a couple more finishes but I don't want to show one until it's been received and the other will have a post of it's own.

I've had a look at my blog post reading list and it's into four figures so I'm sorry but I've just marked them all as read. Please let me know if I've missed anything important.
