Baa Baa White Sheep

My daughter's Boss is having a baby ( well his wife is), supposedly in July. We seem to think the dates are wrong though and she's due anytime soon. This meant I had to get my act together and make a baby quilt for them.

I bought the fabric ages ago. A metre of sheep panel fabric and a co-ordinate aswell as some plains to match.

I cut the panel up and bordered each picture using the plains.

As they were different sizes it was a bit Improv in getting it all together. Somehow it all worked out though.

Amazingly enough the co ordinate I bought was just enough for the backing.

I quilted it very simply. In the ditch around each picture and on the horizontal about an inch apart for the rest.

I managed to find just enough blue that matched to bind it.

All packaged up ready to gift.

I also made up a basket as the daughter has been picking up a few bits and pieces for the new baby to be

All filled and ready to be gifted.

I'm busy in the garden at the moment as the weather is so nice. I do have quite a few quilts on the go though as I've been asked by an owner of a gift shop to make up some table toppers/cot quilts, table runners and mug rugs to sell. This should mean I've got some sewing to post about more regularly.

Hermit Weekend coming up

Hubby is working this weekend and the daughter is out both days doing her own thing. I've therefore decided to join in Joysze at Random Ramblings International Hermit Stitch Weekend

I've made my list. Yes it's a long one but you wouldn't expect anything less and come Monday we'll see how I did.

Ok, here goes

Blossom Heart Bee - I've two blocks to make for this month's  Queen. I've had to wait for fabric, which came today, eventually. Hopefully I can get them done out of the way and in the mail tomorrow.

Blossom Heart Bee - I was the Queen a few months ago. You can read about it HERE. I had so many blocks sent to me my original quilt has become slightly larger than planned

I've four blocks left over so it's not quite finished. Again I've been waiting for fabric. This will be bordered over the weekend so I can show it off to my Bee Mates next week.

Lastly some finished quilt tops need sandwiching. These are the ones from my May to do list.

First up a mini charm square quilt.

I'm not completely happy with this. I was making it up as I went along and it didn't really turn out as I envisaged.

Hopefully I can liven it up with some quilting.

Next up is a Sew Along Medallion quilt from last year sometime

I'm not really sure how I'm going to quilt this yet.

I'll be sandwiching these both and securing by stitching in the ditch on them both. By the time I've finished this I've normally got some idea of how I'm going to quilt them. I may even get started.

Cross Stitch

If the weather holds I'll be spending soe time stitching in the garden so I've some cross stitch ready to do.

I'm taking part in a cross stitch along of owls

There will be 12 and each one will have different eyes and a different pattern stitched for the body. I've done the outlines for 9 and am now filling in the beaks and feet. I'd like to get to the point where I'm starting the body of the first one. I'll be doing them in various variegated thread.

And of course I'll be trying to progress the beast, my HAED.

Well that's enough to keep me busy and out of trouble for the weekend.
See you all Monday.

And we have a finish

Yes ladies I have finished something from my to do list.

It's what my hubby calls the longest scarf in the world. I just need to sew in some ends. Although it's a scarf pattern as I've made this a lot longer than directed as I can also use it as a Summer Stole/Shawl.

The pattern is free from Ravelry and my most complicated knit to date.

The wool is slightly fluffy with a thin metallic silver thread running through it

I'm a self taught knitter and am still learning. I love the lace look though and I'm trying to concentrate those type of patterns.
I'm now on the lookout for a lacy long cardigan pattern to have a go at.

May to do list

So I've decided I work better with a deadline, as proved with all the swap quilts I made last year. In the effort to actually get something achieved ( apart from Bee blocks) this month I'm making a to do list and putting it out there so I'm accountable for it.

It's not going to be the biggest list in the world, after all it's gardening season and I tend to spend quite a bit of time working in my garden.  Also it's a bit of a mixed bag of what I want to finish and what I want to progress.

Right then off we go.

First up is my knitting

I'm making a scarf/wrap/pashmina type thing in a fluffy variegated wool. I'd like to get this finished so I can use it this summer.

Next up is something I'd like to get to flimsy stage

This pile of fabric is nearly a quilt. It's a mystery SAL quilt that's made up of 6" and 12" blocks. I've two of each to make up and then start putting it together.

Next is something I have to start and get to top stage

This is a fabric pull for a baby cot /play quilt for the daughter's boss. The baby isn't due until July but I want to be ready in case he/she comes early

Finally something to quilt and call a finish. I've a couple of wall sized quilts to choose from but I can't find any pics of them. You'll just have to use your imagination. Anyway I'd like to get one of these done.

So that's my list. Not too bad and hopefully achievable. Of course on top of this I've a few Bee blocks to make just to keep things interesting.

I'm off to a garden show tomorrow. I've been saving my pennies ready. I spend more at a garden show than I do at a quilt show. Hubby is coming along to try ( and fail) keep control. If nothing else he'll be useful for carrying the bags.

OK Who Stole April

Go on own up I know it was one of you. I can't believe we are in May already.

As you've probably guessed by my reaction and the fact I've been missing, I haven't done alot of sewing lately. To be honest I've not done alot of anything, I've really let the month get away from me.

So what have I got to show for myself. Apart from a few Bee Blocks nothing.

I'm way behind on the 365 quilt sew along and the Modern HST sampler. I was going to join in the Finish Along but ended up missing the deadline. It's just been one of those months. Still keep attacking as my father in law says. I have a plan for this month. I will get some sewing done. I may even get a finish. More to follow in another post.

And just in case you thought I'd forgotten about it here's Mr April from my Go Commando charity calendar. Mr May will be unveiled in the next few days.
