Scrappy Rainbow Sampler

Back last year a FB group I'm in held a QAL. The idea was simple, 12 of us picked a month and a block and everyone made a sampler in their own colour scheme. As my scraps were ( and still are) overflowing I decided to try a scrappy version.

Now those that know me well will know that I come out in a cold sweat when the word Scrappy is mentioned but I decided that as I was a big girl now I'd give it a go. I will admit to a certain OCD /control freak element in my scrappiness though as I decided each month would be a different colour ( one month being multi coloured) rather than a true go for it scrap quilt.

I also decided to make life interesting I'd do a mix of 12" and 6" sizes of the blocks

I'm afraid I can't find pictures of all the block, they even seem to have disappeared from the group page. Well either that or FB is playing up.

Anyway when it came to setting them I decided to don my big girl panties and go for it. I cut out loads, and I do mean loads of 2" squares and used them as sashing around the 6" blocks and then throughout the whole quilt. A thinnish black border followed and then loads of 3" squares for the final border.

It now resides in my To Quilt tub to be finished off at a later date.

And yes I still come out in a cold sweat at the thought of a pure scrappy quilt but I'm getting there.

  1. Well, I think you nailed it! It is stunning. Great job. And I get you on the OCD!! That's why I don't do a lot of scrappy.

  2. It looks wonderful! I am not good at scrappy either. Everything always looks like it doesn't match, to me.

  3. love how your quilt came together. I have bee blocks from a couple of years ago that are differing sizes, not sure yet how to work them together. I will probably cut them up to size.

  4. meant to say, good to see you back blogging!

  5. It's gorgeous - and looks very scrappy to me! xx

  6. It looks fabulous! I am a "throw it all in there" sort of scrappy quilter and struggle with "controlled scrappy" which I think tends to look better. This looks coordinated and scrappy and lovely!

I love feedback on what I sew so would love your comments. It's a chance to make new friends. I do reply to all of you as long as you are not a no-reply xxxx
